Jasper County Tornado Relief
On May 24th, 2011, Representatives from Polk County 9-1-1, Gasconade County 9-1-1,
Greene County 9-1-1 and Western Missouri 9-1-1 joined together to become the first
Telecommunicater Emergency Response Team (TERT) to deploy in the history of
Missouri. They responded to Jasper County 9-1-1 to assist in coordinating resources in
the wake of the deadly and devastating Joplin Tornado. While here they will coordinate
resource tracking at several command posts in town, providing relief to workers in the
communications center who have all personally felt the devastation of the enormous
natural disaster. We will post pictures of the team in action in the near future; however we
at MONENA request that you keep the families of JasCo in your thoughts and prayers in
the months ahead, as they deal with this horrible tragedy. As of today, all of Jasper
County 9-1-1's employees have been found, no lives have been lost among the staff,
however several have lost their homes, and all have had friends and family that have been
affected.
Directors wishing to assist are requested to contact Elizabeth Pierson, TERT
Coordinator, whose information can be found on the officer's page above. Please, above
all else, DO NOT self-deploy to the area, as you may become part of the problem.
For those wishing to assist dispatchers who have been displaced, contact
www.911cares.com as assistance will be coordinated through them.
